The Grand Tour

Okay so I know I promised you all a house tour, but the fact is – I have too many pictures and too much to say about the entire move thing, to do it all in one post.  So for today, I’m going to post the basics – you get to see the house and the main surroundings.  Next week, I start telling stories – like why we decided to move in the first place, things that happened along the way – all that good stuff.  I was going to type “All the happy horse shit” but it is Lent, and I am trying to clean up my act a little.  Although I do have it on good authority (Dawn) that “shit” is not a swear word.  But then, pretty much everything is fair game with Dawn.

First up is the outside and the neighborhood.  As you can see, we have a lot of work ahead – driveway, lawn, sidewalks, etc.

Directly across from us is another house.  To the left of them, it’s all open yet, which is what you see below.  There will be other houses and single building condos at some point.  I would guess it will take a couple of years to fill up.

 

The next picture is of our street taken from the corner of Scotchman Circle and Fischer Rd (Cty K).  You can see our house down towards the end.

This subdivision has a conservancy around it, so there will never be houses built behind us or behind the houses on the outside of the division.  There is a trail that the developers put in that circles the subdivision – right now it’s pretty mooshy but when we first moved in and it was frozen, I was able to walk the dogs on it.  You can see the back of our house from the trail, across the pond.

 

Did I mention we have a pond?  We have a pond!  Hoping to see some heron or egrets this summer.  Met one of the neighbors who said it was stocked with fish last year, and she said there were turtles, etc.  Not sure if the fish made it thru the winter, though.  Notice the pile ‘o dirt in the lower corner.  More on that next week.

 

Now, time to come inside.  First – Dave’s pride and joy – the garage.

As you come in from the garage, to the left is the laundry room and straight on is the master bedroom with bathroom.

 

Go thru the little hallway to the right, and you walk into the kitchen/living room area.  Open concept with split bedroom design.  It’s all the rage.

Nexttwo pictures are the main bath and the spare bedroom.  I am sparing you my son’s room because it looks just like the spare, only messier.  Notice all the pictures that still need to find a home.  We have been like crazy people in and out of Menards, Fleet Farm, Homestead Interiors, Hobby Lobby, etc.  I’m sick of shopping and making decorating decisions so hoping we take a break from it this weekend.

 

Before showing you the basement, I need to point out that all current window treatments are temporary, and many windows have nothing on them at all yet.  Don’t judge.

Now, the basement.  This is one of the reasons we loved this house, and that’s that it has a walk out.  It’s always nice and bright down here, and with the patio doors, we will really enjoy our summers and winters down here, once we A) Have a lawn B) Have a fire place  C) Have the family room area finished.  Right now, it’s a giant dog playroom and office, and the floors are cold because Old Man Winter refuses to leave the party, even though it’s plain he has had more than his fair share of alcohol and has worn out his welcome.  Go home, Winter!  Your drunk!

Next week, I will fill you in on the adventures of dogs that suddenly have no lawn.  Or maybe the laundry room saga.  Or maybe why we decided to move here in the first place.  Or maybe adventures in bedroom decorating.  Or the bathroom freak out.  Or the quest for decent internet service.  Ah, the opportunities for boring you are endless.
