Cee’s Which Way Photo Challenge Week 18

Today I am participating in Cee’s Which Way Photo Challenge for the first time. According to Cee:  “This challenge subject is all about capturing the roads, walks, trails, rails, we move from one place to another on. You can walk on them, climb them, drive them, ride them, as long as the way is visible. Any angle of a bridge is acceptable as are any signs.”

You can see her entry HERE.  Links to others are in her comment section.

My entries this week are all taken at the same place – just different seasons.  Guess which season gives you wood ticks??  😉

Enter if you dare. Beautiful - yes. But blood sucking danger hides in the foliage... Mwa hahahahahahaha!

Bare but still beautiful. And wonderfully bug free.

Taken on the coldest day of this past winter. Windchills of -40. But the sun was shining! And no bugs!

5 Day Black and White Challenge – Day 5

It’s the last day of my 5 Day Black and White Challenge!  Today’s photo was taken last summer while walking thru a local frisbee golf course, way out in the boondocks.

Today I am not going to ask any one individual to participate.  Instead, I am going to borrow Tree’s idea (from Conversations Around the Tree) and put out an open invitation for anyone who is reading this.  If you would like to give it a go, the rules are simple:  Just post a black and white photo to your blog once a day for 5 days, and invite others to participate!

Okay -I’m off now to watch Parks and Rec on Netflix and eat something unhealthy but extremely tasty.

Have a great week everyone!

5 Day Black and White Challenge – Day 4

So here we are – day 4 already!  One of the coolest things about this challenge is that I am finding out how much fun it is to convert to black and white.  A boring color picture becomes mysterious and intriguing in black and white.

Example – the picture below.  This was taken last fall at Mackinac Island in Michigan.   In color, it looks like a basic tourist photo – nothing too exotic.

But when I converted it to black and white and added a little “dusk” overtone, it suddenly became historical – a moment trapped in time found in Grandma’s scrapbook, and I hear myself asking “Who are these people, Grandma?” and she looks at it and says, “Hmmm…I think that’s Uncle Robby and his kids.  Turn that photo over – do I have anything written on the back? No?  Well, let me get my glasses….”

It is a bit like going back in time on Mackinac anyway, because there are no motorized vehicles allowed and most homes are similar to the one in the photo.

I would like to invite Gemma from Dear Bliary to have a go if she wants (no pressure!).  Gemma loves flying thru the woods with her grandson, Buzz Lightyear, while snapping fun photos and bringing joy to the rest of us with her stories and her neighborhood finds.  And sometimes, when we have been really good, she posts photos of her latest artwork.  So be good!  Visit her blog!

Day 5 tomorrow!

5 Day Black and White Challenge – Day 3

Welcome to Day 3 of my participation in the 5 Day Black and White Challenge (first post and rules HERE)  Today I bring you the tale of two photos.

I have been having some fun experimenting in black and white, and below you see the same photos with different effects done to them.

Don’t ask me exactly what I did though.  I am one of those “click and see what happens” people because that’s just how clueless I am.  Hopefully, the more I play, the more I will learn!

Which do you like better?  How about the next two?

I would like to nominate Steve Boer at Steve Boer Photography to play if he wants.  No obligation or pressure, Steve – it’s perfectly ok to decline!  The rest of you should go check out his site anyway, because he is a spectacular photographer, with a high tolerance for nerds.

Day 4 tomorrow!

5 Day Black and White Challenge – Day 2

Today is Day 2 of the 5 Day Black and White Challenge.  For Day 1 and Rules, CLICK HERE.

Today I picked my dogs as the subjects.  These were taken after one of the first snowfalls, and we were outside romping around.  The first photo is our Daisy – she looks adorable in this photo and she really is.  The second photo is our Lucky dog – he looks fierce in this picture – I must have gotten him at the end of a bark or something.  He’s not fierce at all, except his breath.  Definitely needs a tic tac.

I'm fricken adorable!

Grrrrrr! I'm fierce! Give me a denti-stick!

I am not going to nominate anyone today, but I do invite you to check out my friend, Tree, at Conversations Around the Tree.  She is also participating in this challenge, and she has some lovely photos!  Plus she is funny and sweet and has a big glorious heart – I know you will like her as much as I do!

More fun tomorrow!

5 Day Black and White Challenge – Day 1

I have been invited by my friend Helen at HHC Blog to participate in the “5 Day Black and White Challenge”.  The rules are: (1) Eat large quantities of cake and (2) eat more cake.

Okay so maybe that is my own interpretation of the rules.  The actual rules are:  (1) Publish a black and white photo every day for 5 days and (2) Invite someone else to participate each day.  But you can totally see how I got “eat a bunch of cake” out of that.

First, I want to invite you to check out Helen’s blog (HHC Blog – click it, you fools!).  She has a wonderful eye and a beautiful heart – a gentle and quiet spirit that shines in her writing and photography.   I love reading her stories about her family, and I think my favorite photo is now her header photo – a black and white lotus blossom.

Next I want to invite my friend Sue Slaght, from over at Travel Tales of Life, to participate in the Challenge.  Sue and I found each other about a year ago, and quickly became friends – she obviously has a high tolerance for weirdos.  Sue’s blog is primarily about travel (usually overseas bike tours – how cool is that?) but is laced with humor, love, and mouth watering photography.  Seriously, check out her blog, but be prepared to put on your traveling pants, cuz you’re gonna wanna go.

Without further ado, here is my first photo:

Of course it’s cake!  What else were you expecting?  🙂

More fun tomorrow!
